Citizen Action of New York, Communication Works of America, Family Planning Advocates of New York State, New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness, Planned Parenthood of Saratoga Springs and other supporters of Universal healthcare rallied outside of the Saratoga Springs Hospital Emergency Room to release a new national report that found that three New York insurance companies alone made over a half billion in combined profits in 2007.

Several speakers explained that the Health Insurance Companies in New York State put profits before people and that Health Care reform needs to be put into the hands of the government. Health Care activists from Saratoga and around the Capital District called on their members of Congress to take action and answer the question officials “Which Side are You On?” when it comes to health care legislation in 2009.

The demonstration is one of numerous similar events in 45 states in the next few months focusing on health insurer profits, and highlighting the need for quality, affordable health care for all.  HCAN recently announced its formation at events in Ohio and 52 cities (including 38 state capitals) across the country.  Between now and election day, the group plans to spend $25 million in paid media and have 100 organizers in 45 states.
