With signs in hand, a rally was held today at Binghamton’s Federal Building to urge Senator Chuck Schumer to keep supporting President Obama’s public health care option.
Testimonials were offered by people who had lost their health insurance or had lived in countries with public plans.
Members of Citizen Action, which organized the rally, believe a public health care option is the best way to reduce the uninsured.
Lea Webb says, “It creates healthy competition for the private insurance companies. That’s where a lot of the push back has come from, from the private insurance industry who are fearful that if you have a strong public option, that they will go out of business. But what we’re saying is that let’s make it fair, let’s make it competitive. No longer should residents in our communities have to decide between putting food on their table and going to the doctor for treatable diseases.”
Both Senators from New York, Schumer and Gillibrand, support the public option.
