Buffalo Organizer Diana Cihak Tell’s Fox’s Neil Cavuto Why We’re Going to Win Real Health Care Reform

Citizen Action of New York/Health Care for America Now organizer in Buffalo, Diana Cihak, was interviewed tonight on Neil Cavuto’s show on the Fox Business Channel.

Diana disagreed with Neil’s prediction that the public option is dead. She made the case that an overwhelming majority of Americans support a public option and support H.R. 3200. In fact, an analysis of polls about the public option shows a range of 62%-83% of approval of the public option.

We’re going to win health care reform – we’re going to win health care that is affordable, with comprehensive coverage.

Way to go Diana. Fox News being in favor of reform that may not benefit the insurance companies. We know that will not happen. They know which side their bread is buttered on. But, as Diana noted, the American people also know what's going on and what they need and want. The public option is the only way to go.

As to the comment that we have the best health care in the world. 26th in child mortality and longevty like a third world country. Who are you kidding?

Keep working to make things right for all americans. We don't need the right to help us. They had their chance with Bush and they blew it.
  • By the way, here's an article by Gallup from yesterday that shows a 3 way tie on public opinion between reform, no reform, and not decided.

The point of the post I linked to above was to show that looking at one poll will not provide an accurate representation of attitude towards a policy.

One more thing - if you look at the four questions from the Rasmussen poll you quoted above you'll note that 51% think costs will go up. Now, maybe that does indicate we have a lot of work to do. I'd probably be opposed to this reform if I thought it would raise costs. But, this bill will significantly decrease costs.

In fact, the OMB says reforms will save "$316 billion over 10 years while improving the quality and efficiency of health care, without negatively affecting the care Americans receive."

wow -- my comment was never posted -- wonder why? -- anyway, I thought you might like to see these stats -- today, from Rasmussen --

"Support for the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats has fallen to a new low. Just 42% favor the plan while 53% are opposed. Other data shows that 51% fear the federal government more than private insurance companies. Forty-one percent (41%) fear the insurance companies more. Overall, 32% favor a single-payer health care system for the U.S. while 57% are opposed."

Guess you have a lot more work to do
  • Hi Chris:

Actually, an overwhelming majority of Americans agree that there should be a public coverage option available (which, by the way, is very far from a government takeover).

Take a look at this graph showing a compilation of most major polls asking this question:
    http://citizenactionny.org/2009/08/public-opini...

There's no doubt that everyone in America deserves better. A public option will lower costs and help get more people covered.
  • 52.7% of america voted for obama, not socialized medicine. any person, legal citizen or not, can walk up to a hospital and get medical treatment. we have the best health care system in the world, by far. people travel from around the world to come to america to get our medical treatments.
Diana is in western ny for a reason. a majority of americans reject this governnment takeover of 20 % of our economy!!
  • Diana, knows what she is talking about. THis is the change that America voted for. Good health isn't just for those who can afford it. Health Care for America Now!
