The Working Families Party delivered thousands of petitions to Congressman Eric Massa Tuesday to get him to support President Obama’s comprehensive health care reform bill.
Group members say small businesses and middle income families will benefit from the reform, which offers people the option of public insurance.
“We need to have enough anger in this country to, as one of the speakers said, light a fire under some of these members of Congress. It’s long overdue, now is the time,” said Massa Chief of Staff Joseph Racalto.
“I believe there will be a healthcare reform bill passed in the early fall,” community organizer Diana Cihak said.
The group said objectors worry about the surcharge one percent of western New Yorkers will pay to make the bill affordable.
Polls have shown that 72 percent of people support the public option.
