A local official was awarded with the NAACP’s highest honor.
City council woman Lea Webb was presented with the President’s Award at the bi-annual Freedom Fund dinner at the Holiday Inn Saturday.
The president of the local NAACP chapter says Webb was chosen because of her outstanding work in the community, but the representative says she couldn’t have done it alone.
“I definitely don’t take any of the work that I do for granted. I have wonderful people that work with me, whether it’s my constituents, all the organizations I work with, family, friends, everyone really pitches in and it’s really not about me, it’s about everyone doing their part,” said Webb.
2009 is the 100th year for the organization that promotes equality for all people.
