Local health care practitioners held a press conference in Saratoga Springs on Wednesday to urge U.S. Rep. Scott Murphy, D-Glens Falls, to support health care reform legislation.

Selma Nemer, owner of One Roof Health Center, Dr. Russell Denea, a local psychiatrist, and Caroline Russell, a social worker, were among the speakers, according to a press release.

The event was organized by Citizen Action of New York, an advocacy organization.

Murphy voted against the House version of health care reform legislation.

He has said he would re-evaluate his position once a final version of the legislation is negotiated by a joint House/Senate conference committee.

Murphy has conducted dozens of forums in recent months to discuss health care reform, and he is committed to reducing costs and improving the quality of health care, said Josh Schwerin, a spokesman for Murphy.

  • Health bill should be supported because more people will benefit from it and it will promote people in the lower classes to see the doctor.
