Detroit is a ruined city, wrecked by corporate capitalism and left to die. So how can the blind fool who wrote this article come out with the boosterist nonsense she wrote above?<br><br>Speaking as somebody who grew up in New York during the era of arson and abandonment of the 1970's, I can tell you there isn't a damned thing good about derelict buildings - ESPECIALLY if they are in the heart of a once bustling metropolis!<br><br>As for the time bank thing, it sounds dubious and hippy-dippyish, but I wasn't really that upset with that section of the article, until Ms Goldman wrote about the group in Oakland, which was pure patronizing racist trash.<br><br>To honestly think that the solution to the problems of the inner city minority is this dubious time bank scheme (rather than dealing with institutional racism, employment discrimination, racial profiling by police, de facto residential segregation ect ect ect) is pure idiocy and hopelessly out of touch with reality.<br><br>I could understand why the City of Oakland would push that "solution" - because they have no interest in ending injustice against Blacks and Latinos - but the supposedly progressive author's support for this idea is questionable.<br><br>Having to deal with foolish and clueless White folks like Ms Goldman is the main reason I gave up on political activism!<br><br>GREGORY A.
