In terms of the claims that the new health care reform law will increase costs significantly for small businesses.
That’s a question we put to a member of the local chapter of Citizen Action Thursday night.
It was at a free public presentation, conducted at the Vestal Library.
“The bill is going to include tax credits that take effect immediately, and its going to help 3.6 million small businesses afford coverage. Also, it only affects businesses that have more than 50 full-time employees, and 96% of all small firms in America have fewer than 50 employees, so it really doesn’t affect businesses,” said Amy Fleming, from Citizen Action.
Amy Fleming also says that, contrary to other “myths,” the new law will not cut patient care, nor will it cut doctor’s fees.
And as far as those infamous death panels, she says the reform merely pays for end of life consultations, which many medical practitioners already recommend in cases of terminal illness.
