Legislators around the state received valentines from education advocates with a special message Monday.
Parents, students and community members organized by the Alliance for Quality Education, Citizen Action of New York and the New York City Coalition for Educational Justice delivered gifts to elected officials asking them to not “break their hearts” when it comes to education.
They hope state legislators will say “no” to Governor Cuomo’s proposed cut to schools. Organizers say the message at Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes office in Buffalo was unique.
“Crystal Peoples-Stokes is actually a champion of education in Western New York. We are telling her ‘thank you’ for not breaking our hearts and we’re encouraging you to ask your colleagues to do the same,” said Chy’Nel Lee, an organizer involved in the effort.
Volunteers also held a bake sale outside Peoples-Stokes’ office to raise money for Buffalo Public Schools.
