A lyricist writing a musical about the current legislative session could call it, “Cuomo Get Your Ax”. The show’s break-out hit could be a duet between the Governor and Mayor Bloomberg called “I can cut pensions better than you…” Today, with the help of NYCOM Executive Director Peter Baynes, we rip open up the Governor’s preliminary report on mandate relief and present you with our rendition of “There’s no mandate like an unfunded mandate…” With jazz hands, ehem.
Citizen Action says money is the heart that keeps Albany’s scandal-mongering monster alive – especially the money that flows into campaign bank accounts. “Voters”, they say, need to take back their elections by “owning them”. I know it’s hard to believe, but New York State Constitution prohibits gambling. Yet, gambling can be lucrative. So over the past years, Albany lawmakers have shown Olympian-level skill in areas such as “reality contortion” and “legal definition expansion”. The result has been a chaotic growth of racinos, Indian casinos, horse racing and the lottery. Could it be time to change the rules? Today we discuss the possibility of a casino in the Catskills as well as a constitutional amendment to allow unfettered gambling in New York, with the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Racing, Wagering & Gaming, Hudson Valley Republican Senator John Bonacic and Sullivan county Democrat, Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther.
