About 800 parents, students, and community leaders are in Albany on Wednesday to protest the governor’s proposed cuts in education. Among those demonstrating in the state capitol are Central New Yorkers who departed Downtown Syracuse early in the morning.
Tanika Jones-Cole of Citizen Action of New York says the governor’s cuts are senseless.
“All four of our high schools are on the low-performing list and have been for years. We have no options. We have to invest in our children’s education or we’re sending them straight to prisons or on the streets,” she said.
Cole added that if state lawmakers go through with the cuts, it will result in larger classes and cuts in special education.
