In Albany and Saratoga Springs, demonstrators took part in a nationwide campaign called “Make Them Pay.” The two local events were among hundreds of similar protests designed to draw the public’s attention to tax breaks for the wealthy and for large corporations.
Protestors say higher tax rates and fewer tax breaks could amount to more funding for healthcare, schools, parks the environment, and programs that support the poor.
Along with supporting higher federal tax rates for the wealthy, demonstrators at the Albany rally also called on New York State lawmakers to reconsider an extension of the state’s so-called ‘Millionaire’s Tax.’
The income tax surcharge is not included in the current budget.
