Palmyra, N.Y. - In an effort to offer her constituents a chance to ask questions and hear her position on matters that concern them, Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle attended the Palmyra Town Hall June 8.

Protestors from Metro Justice lined the sidewalk outside Town Hall, waiting to greet her.

“I’m delighted to see so many people,” Buerkle said as she addressed the room filled with more than 90 residents from Palmyra, Macedon and surrounding towns. “We as a nation face many serious issues. If there’s something that’s important to you, I need to hear it. We work for you, you pay our salaries. Thank you for coming tonight. This is an important part of government.”

Buerkle opened the evening with a brief explanation of the committees she’s part of, Oversight and Governmental Reform, Foreign Affairs and Veterans’ Affairs. She touched on her views concerning the economy, saying that the government needs to “get out of the way” in order for the private sector to do “what it needs to do”. Then she opened the floor to questions.

Among issues raised by residents were concerns regarding Buerkle’s position on the Middle East and possible Muslim hostility toward America, her views on term limits and what would be the “fair share” for America’s wealthiest citizens to pay in taxes.
