A flurry of bumblebee-colored “Hands Off My Medicare” signs waved toward passing motorists on Hampton Road in Southampton Village last Wednesday morning, July 20, as part of a statewide “Restore the American Promise” advocacy effort.
About a dozen members of the Long Island Progressive Coalition gathered outside U.S. Representative Tim Bishop’s office to call for the protection of federal safety net programs, such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, in light of the August 2 deadline to raise the national debt ceiling. They said they gathered to thank the congressman for his support of such programs….
