Nuns on the Bus Tour Takes Messages Across Upstate New York

Sean Collins August 21, 2012 1

For the past couple of weeks, faith leaders from across New York hopped in a bus and brought their message to New Yorkers across Upstate. That message: we can’t let the Romney-Ryan budget come to pass. The budget would effectively destroy Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security as we know it and overwhelmingly bring further hardship to impoverished and hard-working families.

These families need a break and we need elected leaders who will be the voice for all New Yorkers not just for wealthy CEO campaign contributors. We need budget that seeks to provide a pathway out of poverty not one that bulldozes that path through cuts to crucial job training programs, early childhood education and nutrition assistance.

Below is a compilation of news clips and videos from the different tour stops. We’ll be updating this post in the future as the tour continues across New York:

Upstate NY is pretty much the northern edge of Appalachia. Not a lot of jobs, you’re ok if you’re owning a family farm handed down from the Revolutionary War. City workers have wages that qualify them for Federal housing. Buffalo is pretty bad, Rochester isn’t much better with all the plant closings at Kodak. Its bankrupt, all those retirees with stock options never thought this would happen.
