Statement: New Democratic Majority Will Address New Yorkers’ Priorities

Albany, NY – In response to news that the Independent Democratic Conference plans to join with  the Senate Democratic Conference to form a new majority in the State Senate, Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, said:

For New Yorkers to have their priorities addressed, we need a Senate majority that shares those priorities. That’s why we’re encouraged that the IDC intends to join with the Democrats to form a new majority. Now there’s a strong chance to win on issues like public funding of elections, the DREAM Act, marijuana decriminalization, higher wages and the full women’s equality agenda. We deserve a government that works for all of us, not just CEO campaign contributors. Now it’s time to make sure that a progressive majority is elected to the State Senate this November.
