BxlFz7lCIAARrdkGovernor Cuomo’s Wage Board had it’s first meeting yesterday to determine a schedule of public hearings, the first of which will be in early October. We teamed up with progressive allies to call on the Wage Board to eliminate the sub-minimum wage – just $5 an hour – that’s set for tipped workers. The Wage Board can take this action without legislation.

Our executive director, Karen Scharff, said in response, “An astounding number of restaurant workers—one in three—can’t afford to feed their families. New York can immediately address this inequality through the Wage Board process by eliminating the sub-minimum wage.
