Statement in Response to Wage Board for Fast Food Workers

Albany, NY – In response to news that Governor Cuomo has formed a wage board to investigate the wages of fast food industry workers, Jacquie Jordan, a McDonald’s worker from Albany and a member of Citizen Action of New York, said:

“I work hard all day at McDonald’s and no matter how hard I work, I can’t pull ahead. It’s not right, it’s not fair and it’s time for all of us to earn a wage that allows us to feed our families. That is why I joined the Fight for 15 and went on strike on April 15th.

“A wage board in New York State can make real change, making the billion-dollar fast food industry pay a wage you can sustain a family on. Being able to buy groceries and afford rent makes a difference not only for me, but for the businesses I support.

“The State Senate clearly isn’t responding to the needs of working families, they are responding to their CEO campaign contributors. Governor Cuomo’s wage board must take the opportunity to help families struggling to make ends meet and to get the economy back into balance. They should raise the wage to $15 an hour across the state.

“My co-workers and I won’t stop fighting until we get $15 and union rights. The wage board can get us half way there.”
