Albany, NY – In response to today’s 6 to 3 Supreme Court decision in King v. Burwell, holding that subsidies under the Affordable Care Act – known as “premium tax credits” – are available in every state, including those with federally operated health insurance marketplaces, Karen Scharff, executive director of Citizen Action of New York, said:
“Today, the Supreme Court rejected the latest right-wing assault on the Affordable Care Act by upholding a key part of the ACA that allows people in every state to have access to subsidies to help cover the cost of insurance. The decision ensures that 16 million people across the country will continue to have access to affordable health care under the ACA and affirms the idea that government – even the U.S. Congress – can work to improve the lives of everyday people. We can’t stop until everyone has access to the health care they need. ”
