Hi Everyone! I am so happy to have you back for another week of the Activist Check-in. Before we go into this week’s activities, I would like to thank everyone who took time from their busy scheduled to vote on Tuesday. Your vote made a difference and we saw some big victories on Election Day. We have one more election to go and it’s the big one. I hope you’re ready to send Donald Trump home and flip the New York State Senate because that’s the goal. Once we get past the elections in November, it will be time to focus on the New York State Legislature and Demand Democracy. Wow, do we ever stop working? No and we won’t stop because we can’t stop.

We are a people-powered organization. Support us in the movement for justice!

People V Billionaires. September 13 was election day and members of Citizen Action mobilized across the state to support incumbent and aspiring candidates. Darius and I traveled to the Bronx in support of Gustavo Rivera. Gustavo’s opponent was a candidate funded by “funny money” and featured a campaign photo that emphasized his 1980’s thick mustache. The people weren’t interested in his “brand of politics” and went with Gustavo. I think they made the right choice. Click here for more election day work.

Ice Cream is Awesome. On Saturday, September 10, the Long Island Progressive Coalition (LIPC) hosted an Ice Cream social in their backyard. Participants mingled with organizers and members while snacking on an assortment of delicious ice cream flavors. LIPC is well known for their backyard patio. Legend has it, that it was secretly built by Olivia, Blanca, and Ryan while discussing ways to build political power and elect progressive candidates. Click here for more information.

Moral Revival National Day of Action. On September 12, The Capital District joined faith leaders at the state office to deliver the “Higher Ground Moral Declaration,” which calls on governors, senators, state legislators, and candidates for office to move away from extremist politics and policies that benefit the few. Could you imagine a world where our elected leaders focused on governing and not petty politics? Our members work hard every day to ensure that future Click here for more info.

Thank you for all That You Do: I don’t think it’s a secret that Citizen Action members and supporters are some of the most amazing people in the state, and without the work that you do, we wouldn’t be able to win in this fight for justice.  This week, we’re spotlighting a bad ass member from the capital district, Jacquie Jordan. Jacquie is intelligent, passionate, and a steady voice in the fight for justice, if you don’t believe me, just look at her resume, it speaks for itself. 7 years working at McDonald’s, 2 years in the Fight For $15 campaign, 1 year Citizen Action member, 3 National Strikes 2016 Actions and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Anyone who knows Jacquie will tell you how great she is, and we are honored to have her on our side.
