Congratulations, we have completed a full week with Donald Trump as our President-Elect. It’s surreal, isn’t it? This time next year, I’ll be in the 2017 Hunger Games fighting on team “The Blacks” and Vladimir Putin will be our king. Speaking of Putin, are you there Putin? It’s me, Stanley. I just want you to know that I have always loved Mother Russia, and think the world of the Kremlin. I figure I should start sucking up to him now since he’ll probably be a closer personal advisor to President Trump. Would you guys root for me if we had an actual Hunger Games? Thankfully, you will never have to answer that question, because there won’t be any Hunger Games in these here United States. But there will be activism, and this week we have plenty of it.

-Stanley

capital-district-trump-actionLove Trumps Hate Across the State. On November 12, the Capital District organized a march that led to the steps of the State Capitol. Hundreds of people gathered to stand up against Trump’s racist anti-immigrant, anti-woman, inequality agenda. Protestors came to the event united as one people offering safety and support and ready to stand up to all forms of hate.

western-new-york-actionHumanity Over Oppression Rally. The nationwide opposition to Donald Trump continues, and it seems to be the loudest in his home state. On November 14, the Western New York Chapter of Citizen Action joined thousands of protesters at the Niagara Square in front of City Hall. The protestors were there to reject Trump’s hate filled rhetoric and dangerous policies. Several people at the action spoke, some expressed their fear of a Trump presidency, while others promised to fight with their allies. Click here to read more.

southern-tierOur Pledge of Resistance. On November 16, the Southern Tier hosted their Pledge of Resistance event aimed at giving people an outlet for activism and education. It was wildly successful. The next general meeting will be on Wednesday, December 7, at 6:00 pm, and will take place at a roomier location. At the meeting, we created a structure of resistance and many subgroups will be meeting. Click here to get involved.

chapter-meeting-hvHudson Valley Chapter Meeting. The good people of Kingston aren’t just fighting Donald Trump in protest, they are actively building power in their community, and on November 15, the Hudson Valley Chapter hosted a chapter meeting to coordinate with neighbors, chapter members and new activists. The meeting concluded with a commitment from all of the people in the room to be allies or partners in the fight for justice.

Ready for Next Steps. It was standing room only last night, as just over 100 people came out and packed the Metro Justice office, to discuss and mobilize against the racist, classist, homophobic, misogynistic, and violent agenda of the Trump Administration’s first 100 days plan and build a movement for the fight ahead. here-to-stayHere to Stay. On November 13, the New York City Chapter joined Make the road in the streets of New York to let Trump and all of his cronies know that they are here to stay. Donald Trump has promised one of the most racist and divisive immigration plans this country has seen since the alien sedition act.  Activist marched to Trump Towers to let him know that Love Trumps Hate, and that they weren’t going anywhere.

lipc-packedThe Chapter Ideas. The Long Island Progressive Coalition hosted a packed house of angry but determined progressives sharing their perspectives and feelings after last week’s election. Long Island was one of the few places in New York where Trump could expect some support, so activist are thinking of ways to engage these supporters and show them that Trump’s policies are nothing but hate speech with no actual plan.

BLOGS

This week’s blog is extra special, it comes from BuffaloCity Lights and features a spotlight on Western New York Organizer, Samantha Nephew. Samantha is one of the newest members of the Citizen Action family, but also one of the coolest, and this feature does a great job of telling her story and helping you understand how she got into this fight. TAKE ACTION!

Let’s be blunt: The Democratic Party needs new leadership. Keith Ellison forcefully opposed the Iraq War, backs universal health care, is against fracking and fights every day to take on the political establishment and its corporate backers in Congress.
