Happy Holiday’s, Thanksgiving or Friday. Whatever it is you celebrate I’m here for it and happy to be able to speak with you. Yesterday, I spent my evening eating way too much turkey, and trash talking a nine-year-old that thought she could beat me in Uno. After three rounds, and five draw four cards, she was forced to give up, I consider it one of the proudest moments of my adult life. How was your week, did you trash talk a preteen, or was your time spent doing important things? We were pretty busy before Uncle Ned could rant about his love for President-Elect Trump, or post thanksgiving sandwiches could be made, we closed out the week with some good old fashioned grass roots action. Take a look.

eva

Calling out Eva. It’s been two weeks since Donald Trump won the election, and while most people in the progressive movement have spent the time soul searching and looking for ways to protect our allies, Charter School advocate, Eva Moskowitz was meeting with Donald Trump and giving his daughter, Ivanka Trump, a tour of Success Academy. Trump ran on an agenda that directly attacks people of color, but for some reason, Moskowitz thought it was a great idea to get cozy with the president-elect. The alliance for quality education was not about to let that slide and on November 23, they hosted a rally in front of Eva’s building, letting her know that there’s no way the CEO of a 93% Black and Latino charter network should be embracing Trump. community-meeting

Capital District Community Meeting. On November 22, over 100 people turned out in the Capital district to put together a plan for protecting our communities from Trump’s regressive agenda. The meeting focused on collaborative next steps and actions to ensure that we keep a constant presence and move forward to protect ourselves, our neighbors, friends, our social safety net and our civil rights. BLOGS

On Nov. 21, community groups sent New York State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan a letter calling on him to immediately demand the resignation of Stephen Bannon, Trump’s recently appointed Chief White House Strategist. Flanagan is in a unique position to take action as the highest ranking elected Republican in New York state – especially in light of the uptick in hate crimes reported across in the state since Election Day. IN THE NEWS

The Advocate. Social justice organizations, immigrant support groups, and education activists called for Wednesday’s protest after Moskowitz met with Donald Trump about possibly becoming his education secretary, and led Ivanka Trump on a low-key tour of a Success Academy school in Harlem last week. TAKE ACTION!

Let’s be blunt: The Democratic Party needs new leadership. Keith Ellison forcefully opposed the Iraq War, backs universal health care, is against fracking and fights every day to take on the political establishment and its corporate backers in Congress.
