Welcome to 2017! We’re six days into the new year and I have already broken 8 resolutions and completely abandoned my healthy eating meal plan for 2017. I have one resolution left: I promise to fight like I never have before on behalf of poor and working class New Yorkers. I think I have a good chance of winning this fight, but I’m going to need your help. Are you ready to sign petitions, attend meetings, protest, and raise all kinds of hell for justice? Good, because we have a laundry list of things that need to get done this year. Here’s what we got done in the first week of 2017.

Fighting for the Affordable Care Act. While the Republican Party tries to play political football with our health insurance, real people are scared to death at the possibility of once again not having affordable health coverage. We can’t let that happen, so on Thursday, January 5, we joined elected officials, community leaders, and advocates outside of the State Senate chamber to tell President-elect Trump and New York Congressional representatives not to take away the health care of 2.7 million New Yorkers. Resisting Trump’s Agenda. On January 4, the Southern Tier held their resistance movement annual meeting at the United Presbyterian Church in Binghamton. The action teams are creating programs and events to prepare participants for the right wing takeover happening in Washington D.C. Click here for photos.

Three Kings Action. Earlier today, the Hedgeclippers held an action in front of the Santander Bank at 841 Broadway in NYC to reveal the next group of banks that have profited from the suffering of Puerto Rico. They were joined by Make the Road and Vamos4PR. Click here to read the report.

If a doctor or hospital makes an error while treating you, you have the right to take legal action against them, but only for a limited time. This time limit is called a “statute of limitations” – you need to take action within a reasonable timeframe. But in New York, that time limit starts the day that the medical error was made.
