Statement: Citizen Action Calls on Rep Faso to Vote No on GOP Health Care Bill in House Budget Committee

The House of Representatives Budget Committee is scheduled to vote on the GOP’s American Health Care Act this week. Rep. John Faso is the only member of the committee from New York State. With this critical vote coming up in a few days, Karen Scharff, Executive Director, Citizen Action of New York, made the following statement:

Congressman Faso will have to decide whose side he’s on this week. Will he vote to give billions in tax breaks to insurance CEOs and the super-rich, or will he protect our health care?

117,959 of Faso’s constituents are at risk of losing coverage under the GOP Plan, and many more will be forced to go without the care they need because of drastic cuts to Medicaid and health care subsidies for low and middle-income families. The same bill includes $525 billion in tax breaks for pharmaceutical and insurance giants and the top 1% of earners.

The plan puts people’s lives at risk just to make the wealthy even wealthier.

Two weeks ago over a thousand of Faso’s constituents joined us at a town hall to ask him to protect our health care, and thousands more have called, written and visited his office. They all demanded he stand up against this destructive plan.

Now is the moment of truth for Faso – who does he represent?
