CITIZEN ACTION LAUNCHES HEALTH CARE FOR AMERICA NOW CAMPAIGN IN NEW YORK

Because health care is in a deepening state of crisis in New York and across the country, Citizen Action has joined with many other organizations to ensure that the first order of business of the next President and Congress is to pass legislation in 2009 that guarantees quality, affordable health care for all. While state and national politicians are issuing their plans for solving this crisis, our job as citizens and activists is to ensure that these plans meet the needs of our families and the common good, not the demands of insurance companies, drug companies, and others whose main goal is to profit from the health care system.

In 2009, we will either have a guarantee of quality, affordable health care we all can count on or we will continue to be at the mercy of the private health insurance industry that is charging us more, giving us less and putting company profits before our health. Here in New York State and in communities all across the country, we're asking one question, ‘Which side are you on?' Are you on the side of quality, affordable health care? Or are you on the side of being left alone to fend for yourself in a complicated, bureaucratic insurance market?

Will we all have access to coverage that meets the health care needs of our families and is affordable? Will our government be an advocate for us by setting and enforcing the rules so insurance companies put our health care before their profits? Will our health care system eliminate racial and ethnic disparities? Will we have quality, affordable health care we all can count on? Only you can answer these questions. Join with us today to demand Health Care for American Now!

Our goal is affordable, quality health care for everyone in New York and our nation.

Our current health care system is not affordable for our families, businesses or government. All of us, individuals, employers and government have a shared responsibility to realize comprehensive reforms in our health care system.

We believe:

Everyone must have health care coverage.

Our health care system must eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health care.Health care must be affordable to the family budget and to our businesses.

Health care must provide the full range of health benefits to meet peoples’ needs.

Everyone must have a choice of a public or private health insurance plan.

Health Care is about the public good not health insurance Industry profits!
