In January, Citizen Action of New York's national organization - USAction - helped found a new coalition, along with MoveOn and other groups, aimed at turning around US policy in Iraq. The coalition, called Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, is working to stop the escalation and bring our troops home. The coalition brings proven experience and expertise in how to run national Congressional issue campaigns and the ability to do so across the nation. Now that Democrats control Congress, we need a campaign that combines protest with a winning legislative strategy.

Citizen Action of New York, together with the Syracuse Peace Council, Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (Iraq Summer), Peace Action, and the American Friends Service Committee, today released a report revealing the cost of the Iraq War to New York State.  New York taxpayers have paid more than $40.9 billion of the $456 billion in total funding for the Iraq war.  The report is authored by the USAction Education Fund, and illustrates how New York’s cost of war could have provided funding for Head Start, K-12 education, college scholarships, and health insurance in New York State.
