6,600 Letters
While Legislators are doing a lot of talking about passing the now month-late State Budget, earlier today, parents, teachers, students and taxpayers joined the Alliance for Quality Education (AQE) at the Capitol to deliver over 6,600 handwritten letters to Senators demanding a temporary tax on Wall Street to prevent $1.4 billion in proposed cuts to education funding. Yes, we had a disappointing weekend.
It appeared that the Administration we worked so hard to elect was backing away from our strongest mandate – true health care reform through a strong public option.
But every cloud has a silver lining!
Community Spotlight: Wyandanch Schools
For years, our Long Island affiliate, the Long Island Progressive Coalition, has been working through the Alliance for Quality Education to influence reforms in the Wyandanch School District – reforms to the curriculum, the way the district handles their finances, and creating transparency between the Board of Education and community members.
