The Phoenix is a symbol of life and hope emerging from the ashes of despair. For 35 years, Citizen Action of New York has been honoring those individuals in our community who have demonstrated an active commitment to social justice and progressive values. The Phoenix Award is our way of honoring the unsung heroes who have initiated impactful, systemic change.

Every year, the Citizen Action of New York – Southern Tier Chapter hosts the Phoenix Awards. This event honors local activists who are engaged in advancing our vision of a world based on racial, social, economic, and environmental justice.

This year’s honorees include:

  • Northside Mutual Aid, community group that has organized resource distribution to fulfill needs resulting from the COVID19 pandemic
