New York, NY – Today, Citizen Action of New York announced its endorsement of 8 candidates running for New York City Council: Carlina Rivera (CD 2), Corey Johnson (CD 3), Ben Kallos (CD 5) Randy Abreu (CD 14), Amanda Farias (CD 18), Jimmy Van Bramer (CD 26), Antonio Reynoso (CD 34), and Brad Lander (CD 39)

“Our endorsed candidates will fight for important legislation on behalf of struggling New Yorkers, like the Right to Know Act, housing rights, and the fair work week bill.” said Claude Laroche, Citizen Action Member. “Whether they’re running to fill an open seat, or to continue their service in office, these are the type of candidates that New York deserves, and we want to stand behind.”

“I think we have a great roster of people in this year’s endorsements, but I am particularly excited about Amanda Farias” said, Rafael L. Carrera, Citizen Action member and Bronx resident. “Not only is she from the community, and a strong supporter of our issue agenda, she’s also thinking about our day to day struggles, and how to address them. I’m excited about her plan to increase access to healthy food in the district.”

Citizen Action of New York is a grassroots, community organization with over 30,000 members across New York State.
