Albany, NY — Citizen Action of New York has announced its endorsement of Democratic candidate Tistrya Houghtling in the 107th Assembly District.

Houghtling is running against Republican Jake Ashby for a seat previously held by Steve McLaughlin, whose seven years in office were riddled with reports of inappropriate behavior and numerous other controversies.

The 107th District covers portions of Columbia, Rensselaer, and Washington counties.

Houghtling currently serves as New Lebanon’s Town Clerk. Citizen Action leaders voiced appreciation for Houghtling’s commitment to public service, concern for climate and environmental issues, and support for campaign finance reform.

“We were impressed with Tistrya Houghtling’s passion, sincerity, and deep understanding of the issues facing struggling families in the 107th District,” said Ivette Alfonso, President of Citizen Action of New York. “Once elected, she will be a powerful ally to working people and strong progressive voice in the Assembly.”

“I am so thankful for the endorsement of Citizen Action of NY. Citizen Action has helped galvanize grassroots activism in support of progressive action for years, and their support is a testament to the type of campaign we are running,” said Democratic candidate Tistrya Houghtling. “I am not the candidate of big money. I am a mom, teacher, and small town elected official trying to bring all of our voices to Albany.”

“Tistrya articulates strong progressive values on a wide range of issues, including racial justice, economic inequality, clean energy, immigration, education, public financing of campaigns, and addressing the water pollution in Hoosick Falls,” said Mark Schaeffer, Board Member for Citizen Action of New York.
