Dear Activist,

Last week, during budget negotiations, Governor Cuomo held a private $25,000 a plate fundraiser at the St. Regis Hotel. And according to the reports, plenty of corporate CEOs and lobbyists turned up to get the Governor’s ear. (Even Cuomo’s Budget Director came along.) This shameless display is yet another example of big money pulling the strings in New York.

We have a real opportunity to pass small donor public financing this year, but we need our demands to be heard loud and clear. Two things you can do right now: 1) Make a call to 855-465-1748 to get connected with your legislator 2) Tweet at your representatives in support of #FairElections

Let’s pass this!

AROUND THE STATE

With the budget deadline just a few days away, Citizen Action leaders across the state joined at the Capitol to make a big push for small donor public financing and equitable school funding inthe budget. #HoodieCrew

Our Central New York Chapter held a community forum on school climate in the Utica City School District. Parents and advocates are calling for restorative practices, increased parent engagement, culturally relevant curriculum, and critical supports for English language learners.

April 9th is a big statewide day of action for the Climate and Community Protection Act, which we will push to pass post-budget. Our staff and leaders have been making calls to turn people out for this big climate action.

REVERSING RUNAWAY INEQUALITY

We’re thrilled that the second video in our Reversing Runaway Inequality series is now out! It focuses on the “better business climate” philosophy and how it’s been used to slash spending while enriching the super wealthy. Please watch and share the video.
