Citizen Action Responds to the Proposed State Takeover of the Rochester City School District

Rochester, NY—Citizen Action of New York has responded to the proposed referendum on a state takeover of the Rochester City School District:

“A state takeover of the Rochester City School District would deprive parents and community members of a meaningful voice in our schools. With a new Superintendent, our focus should be on continued community engagement and building on our recent school climate successes,” said Lydia Rodriguez, State Board Member of Citizen Action of New York.

“Leaders in our community have worked hard to improve school climate, deepen parent engagement, and uplift student voice—and we have seen real, measurable results. This proposal is another way of telling our community, ‘Thanks, but we’ll take it from here.’” said Rosemary Rivera, Co-Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York and Board Chair of the Alliance for Quality Education.
