Citizen Action Statement on Tiffany Cabán victory in Queens County DA race

Queens, NY—In response to Tiffany Cabán’s victory in the race for Queens County District Attorney, Stanley Fritz, NYC Campaigns Manager of Citizen Action of New York, has issued the following statement:

“Tiffany Cabán’s truly people-powered victory is part of the seismic shift in New York politics rejecting the status quo and led by Black, Brown and low-income New Yorkers who’ve experienced firsthand the devastating effects of mass criminalization. And Queens is clearly at the epicenter of that movement.

“Queens voters voted for nothing short of transforming the justice system. They voted for a justice system that addresses the root causes of harm in our society, they voted for an end to the racist War on Drugs, they voted to hold the NYPD accountable to our communities and for a district attorney who will show through their actions that Black Lives Matter. Tiffany Cabán’s win is a resounding rejection of mass incarceration.”
