Albany, NY—In response to the historic protests that led to the resignation of Puerto Rican Governor Ricardo Rosselló, Rosemary Rivera, Co-Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, issued the following statement:

“It is with pride that we watched hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans come together this week to demonstrate what real people power looks like and what it can achieve. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico, and the Puerto Rican diaspora here in New York, as they fight back against not only Gov. Rosselló’s hateful, vile messages, but also against the decades of austerity driven by hedge fund billionaires and unjust policies that treat Puerto Rico like a U.S. colony, extract wealth from the island and ransack its economy. Puerto Ricans are taking a stand to address generations of injustices. The people united will never be defeated.”
