New York, NY – Citizen Action of New York announced its endorsement of Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou for re-election in the 65th Assembly District, which includes the Lower East Side, Chinatown, South Street Seaport, the Financial District and Battery Park City.

Yuh-Line is a true progressive champion. Citizen Action cites her commitment to ending homelessness and expanding tenants rights, as well as her work to secure critical funding for New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) repairs, as key reasons for their endorsement.

“Assemblymember Nio is passionate about helping our communities. She strong voice in the Assembly for poor, low-income and working class families,” said Jamelle Henderson, Citizen Action Regional Board Member. “She understands what most New Yorkers are going through and fights to make our communities stronger and New York as a whole a place where we can all succeed.”

“There are few organizations that have led as many fights for justice in New York as Citizen Action, and I’m thrilled to have their endorsement,” said Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou. “Whether it’s fighting against predatory lending or standing up for campaign finance reform or working to end mass incarceration, I’ve been so proud to stand alongside them and their people-powered movement. Citizen Action understands that intersectionality isn’t just a talking point, but that if we’re going to get justice for anyone, we need justice for everyone. I’m excited to continue working with them toward a better, fairer New York.”

Citizen Action of New York is a grassroots organization with eight regional chapters and thousands of active members across the state. The organization works on issues important to our communities, including limiting the influence of money in politics, guaranteeing livable wages and economy-boosting jobs, strong public schools, ending mass incarceration and more. Citizen Action endorses candidates for public office who support the same vision for a New York that works for everyone, not just the wealthy.
