Rochester, NY— Citizen Action of New York endorsed candidates Jeremy Cooney (Senate District 56), Sarah Clark (Assembly District 136), Demond Meeks (Assembly District 137), and Harry Bronson (Assembly District 138) are the winners of the June 23rd primaries, according to the unofficial results released on Wednesday by the Monroe County Board of Elections.

“The primary results show that people want real change, and status quo politics won’t cut it anymore,” said Lydia Rodriguez, Citizen Action Board member. “We need leaders who will champion the issues that impact everyday people, like housing and education justice, health care for all, and ending mass incarceration.”

Cooney won more than 50 percent of the vote in a three-person race in Senate District 56. Clark had a huge victory, with more than 60 percent  of the vote in Assembly District 136. Bronson, who was first elected in 2010, won nearly 60 percent of the Democratic vote. Bronson has been a strong ally for working families and has fought to strengthen public education in Rochester. Meeks, a long-time community organizer, ran a strong, grassroots campaign and won more than 40 percent of the vote in a competitive four-person race.

Clark, Meeks and Bronson were facing challengers who had received the Monroe County Democratic Party’s official designation. They were endorsed by Citizen Action due to their commitment to education equity, housing justice, ending mass incarceration and quality health care for all.
