Rochester, NY – As Rochester and Monroe County families face housing and food insecurity, Citizen Action members see the June 22 primary wins as hope for a bright, progressive future. In response, Pamela Kim Adams, activist and member of Citizen Action of New York’s Election Committee, said:
“It’s exciting to see so many of the candidates we endorsed win their primary races. Having grassroots leaders like Kim Smith and Stanley Martin on the Rochester City Council will help bring much needed change to the city. We’re happy to see Camille Afiya Simmons come out on top in her race for Rochester City School Board. This is her first time running for office and she won the second most highest votes in the race. In the Monroe County Legislature races, Susan Hughes-Smith and Rachel Barnhart also saw overwhelming support among voters. Rochester has been through a lot — children have had to go without school lunch, families are facing eviction, and we still need justice for Daniel Prude. This is what Democracy looks like.”
