Budget Justice During COVID-19

As our state government responds daily to COVID-19, they are also facing an April 1 deadline to pass a state budget. In that budget, legislators and Governor Cuomo have a choice: Either they will continue underfunding and underinvesting in our communities or #MakeBillionairesPay!

Fund NY Schools and Protect Bail Reform

The New York State public education system is currently owed almost $4 Billion in Foundation Aid, and bail reform is under attack. State legislators have the power to change the current system by voting for a tax increase on the ultra rich and investing in education, not jails.

End Unjust Evictions!

New York needs legislation to stop evictions without “Good Cause.” Until it’s passed, our housing crisis will only get worse as more families are displaced from their communities due to rising rents and deplorable housing conditions. Our leaders in Albany need to hear from you.

Join the movement for justice!

Citizen Action of New York is a statewide grassroots membership organization taking on big issues that are at the center of transforming society—issues that will achieve social, racial, economic and environmental justice in our communities.

Our Victories

Raised Minimum Wage

We fought and won important victories to improve our rights in the workplace, including a minimum wage of $15/hour.

Passed Pretrial Laws

We won new bail, discovery, and speedy trial laws allowing thousands of legally innocent people to await trial from home.

Passed New Tenant Laws

We won the strongest tenant protection laws in the history of New York State.
