Our Everyday Heroes Awards is a celebration of the ordinary people who, through community organizing and political action, have demonstrated extraordinary power in winning justice for our communities.
Each year, Citizen Action of New York comes together to honor the everyday heroes who are making a difference in our communities. We celebrate the ordinary people who, through community organizing & political action, have demonstrated extraordinary power in making New York a more just state. We’ll be celebrating those who have helped advance three pillars of Citizen Action’s Justice Agenda – civil rights, climate justice and housing justice.
This year we’re honoring the following heroes:
- Joo-Hyun Kang, former executive director of Communities United for Police Reform
- Veekas Ashoka, volunteer with the Sunrise Movement
- Prince Thomas and Ms. Alice Hudson, Citizen Action housing justice leaders in Staten Island
