Citizen Action’s Alternate State of the State Address

When Governor Cuomo delivered his State of the State address on January 5, 2011, he called on all New Yorkers to help “remake our State into the progressive capital of the nation.”

But many of the ideas he outlined in his speech, especially fiscal policies, were anything but progressive.

Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York offers this alternate State of the State message, outlining a truly progressive vision for New York.

This was a good statement, although it did not include the impact that laying off public employees would have in this economy, with this unemployment. What upsets me is that where was CA during the campaign. Mr Cuomo is not saying anything different now than he did in his ads and statements then. He ran as a fiscal Republican and that is what we are getting. That’s why I went 3rd party and voted for Mr Barron and the Freedom Party slate. We have to wake up and stop supporting people just because they have a (D) after their names.
