Education and early childhood

Why We're Fighting

Whatever our race, background, or zip code, we all want high-quality child care and public education so our kids can thrive, parents can work, and we can build safe and healthy communities. For too long, some elected officials have failed to prioritize key investments in children and, as a result, we are facing child care and education crises. It’s not right that families can’t find child care or can’t afford it when they do.

It’s not right that our children are stuck in schools and child care situations that don’t meet their
developmental, emotional, or cultural needs. We need to guarantee every child and family has affordable, accessible child care options and public schools that are developmentally, educationally, and culturally appropriate. We need to respect those who teach, provide support services, and provide child care as the skilled educators they are and ensure they have good wages and benefits. When all of our children have excellent child care and education – that supports their cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development–we are all better off. Our communities are stronger, healthier, safer, and more prosperous.

What We're Fighting For

Every child, regardless of their zip code, deserves high-quality child care and public education in which they are able to grow emotionally, mentally, culturally, and creatively. We will ensure this by:

  • Increasing funding for child care to ensure child care providers are compensated equitably so that child care is available regardless of zip code.
  • Fully fund schools by adhering to the commitments of the Foundation Aid formula
  • Passing Mothers and Infants Lasting Change (S4578A/A6197A) sending direct cash payments to low income mothers during the last three months of pregnancy and the first 18 months of a child’s life.
