HEALTH CARE JUSTICE

We Believe Health Care is a Human Right

We want a world where health care is a human right. We are working for a universal system where both physical and mental health are guaranteed on an equitable basis for every human — no matter their race, gender, citizenship status or ability to pay. We need a system that provides comprehensive quality health care, is culturally responsive, improves the quality of life, and is accessible to all.

Every New Yorker Deserves Quality Health Care

Health care is a human right. So we must:

  • Provide quality coverage for all necessary medical services with no out-of-pocket costs.
  • Ensure quality care for every person and end health care discrimination.
  • End abusive billing and collections practices.

New York State's Health Care Crisis

Over 1 million people lack health insurance across New York State, including more than 400,000 undocumented immigrants who remain uninsured because of their citizenship status. Every year, millions of patients with health insurance plans go without needed medical attention or medicine due to high deductibles and co-pays. People are taking on second and third jobs just to afford their prescriptions. Our health care system should put the health and well-being of our families before the profits of wealthy shareholders and CEOs.

“Some in Congress seem determined to cut vital programs that help the elderly, working families, children and people with disabilities get the care they need – regardless of who it hurts. They are doing all of this to give huge tax cuts to corporations and the very wealthy. It’s disgraceful.”
