Guilderland, NY – Members of Citizen Action of New York and other local residents and community members gathered to announce their endorsement of Sara Niccoli in her bid to represent the 46th New York State Senate district. Citing her strong history of leadership and dedicated work in advancing causes that will strengthen our community, those gathered enthusiastically kicked off a volunteer drive to encourage voters to cast their ballots for Niccoli.

“Citizen Action of New York is excited to support Sara Niccoli in her run for the New York State Senate,” said Anita Thayer, Co-Chair of Citizen Action’s Capital District Chapter. “Sara shares our commitment to justice and democracy. As Sara has said ‘she doesn’t come from money and she doesn’t represent money.’ The people of New York State need Sara to lead the fight to get money out of politics and enact real ethics reform.”

“The residents of the 46th District deserve a Senator who not only fights for them but also listens to their concerns and is available full-time to serve their needs,” said Sara Niccoli. “Unfortunately, my opponent has treated his Senate position as a part-time hobby and diversion, and our communities deserve better. I am honored to receive Citizen Action’s endorsement, and I will continue to speak with my neighbors and all residents of the 46th Senate District to ensure their issues and priorities are addressed.”

“Sara Niccoli has spent all of her life fighting for justice,” said Ivette Alfonso, President of Citizen Action of New York. “She is the rare candidate who understands and can represent both rural and urban communities. In fact, she will be a unifying force both for her district and the state.”

“We need Sara Niccoli. She is a strong supporter of public education and wants to make sure rural and small city schools get the funding they need to be successful,” said Hudson Valley Committee member Art Plichta. “We need someone new, who will represent the people in our District and not big special interests and I believe that she is the right person for the job.”

Sara has devoted her career to building community in the nonprofit sector while raising her 13 year-old daughter, Olive, and running a second-generation farm with her husband, Sean, and mother-in-law, Pat. Citizen Action of New York has proudly partnered with Sara in her role as the Director of the NYS Labor-Religion Coalition, where she has successfully advocated for measures including raising the minimum wage and paid family leave.

Citizen Action of New York is a grassroots, community organization with over 30,000 members across New York State. The organization works on issues important to our communities, including limiting the influence of money in politics, guaranteeing livable wages and economy-boosting jobs, quality public education for all children, reforms to the criminal justice system, and more. Citizen Action endorses candidates for public office who support the same vision for a New York that works for everyone, not just the wealthy.
