CBO: GOP Plan Takes Health Care From 23 million to Give Tax Cuts to the Rich

Albany, NY – In response to the Congressional Budget Office’s assessment of the American Health Care Act, Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, said:

“The new CBO score for the AHCA confirms that Trumpcare would destroy our health care system while the super rich pocket billions in tax cuts. The American Health Care Act doesn’t make insurance more affordable, it prices out the elderly punishes people for having pre-existing conditions, and sends a $600 billion dollar tax cut to the super-rich. If passed, the Republican bill would hike the cost of health insurance for millions, with the biggest increases for seniors and moderate-income working people, make premiums unaffordable for people with pre-existing conditions, and end Medicaid expansion while slashing funding to the states. New York Members of Congress like Faso, Tenney, and Stefanik had a chance to protect the health care of millions of New Yorkers, but they chose tax cuts for the wealthy instead.
