Albany, NY – Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, addressed the administration’s latest proposal to overhaul the tax code:
“Trump’s tax plan is a swindle. It’s a massive tax break for hedge fund billionaires and large corporations at the expense of working families. While claiming to help working families, Trump is proposing failed trickle-down policies. When we should be raising wages for workers, he instead proposes to pad the pockets of the wealthy. Trump’s policy proposals repeatedly show he’s on the side of the rich and doesn’t care about low-income and middle-class families, despite his rhetoric.
Republican leaders tell us we can’t afford universal health care and other programs that would benefit everyone, and yet somehow they’re able to pay for tax cuts for CEOs. The proposed overhaul would lead to widening inequality and further devastation to our schools, health care system, and infrastructure. We call on all New York members of Congress to stand up and say ‘no’ to this bait-and-switch proposal.”
