Today, we are endorsing Senate candidate Gustavo Rivera for the 33rd Senate District.  This district is now represented by Pedro Espada, who despite being under investigation, has yet again failed to submit campaign finance reports.  Of course, Espada is more infamous for his participation in the Senate coup that ground the legislature into a circus side-show.

Gustavo Rivera will once again bring dignity and faith to the constituents of the 33rd District and to New York State.  He worked in several capacities and states to build the local frameworks needed to elect President Obama.  He has also worked for Senator Gillibrand and the New York Senate’s Majority Office, and he has also managed several local campaigns.  In sum, Gustavo is a progressive with experience at all levels of government.

Gustavo has earned the trust of his colleagues and is winning a growing list of endorsements from other seasoned progressives and reformers.  We need true and honest representatives – ones who’ll stand up to corruption wherever they may be.  Our representatives shouldn’t use their offices to enrich themselves with money or with power.

We’ve seen several victories this past legislative session – victories like the end to prison-based gerrymandering.  As we continue to advocate for quality health care, quality education, fair elections, jobs for our community, and a fair tax system, Gustavo will work with us.

With Gustavo Rivera as the 33rd District’s Senator, we’ll once again see government work for the public good.
