Citizen Action Praises Assembly for Passing Public Financing of Comptroller Campaigns
Legislation is Major Step Toward Taking Big Money Influence Out of Politics in New York
Albany, NY – In response to the Assembly passing legislation to create a system of public financing for campaigns for the Office of the New York State Comptroller, Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, said:
“When the Assembly passed legislation today to create a system of voter owned elections for the Office of the New York State Comptroller, they took the first serious step toward changing the way Albany operates. There’s no doubt that the results of this legislative session have been influenced by campaign cash. But today, in response to Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s leadership, the Assembly passed the true ethics reform that New York State needs: a system of public financing of elections. Citizen Action congratulates Comptroller DiNapoli who submitted the bill, Speaker Silver, and the bill’s supporters in the Assembly. We now strongly urge the State Senate to pass this legislation.”
