DiNapoli Leads Effort to Clean Up New York’s Elections

New Bill Would Set Up Publicly-Financed Voter Owned Elections for Comptroller’s Office

In response to legislation introduced by Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli that would create a system of public financing for Comptroller campaigns, Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, said:

“Citizen Action of New York commends Comptroller DiNapoli for being a leader in the fight for the true reform that New York State needs: publicly-financed voter owned elections.

Voter owned elections is the only way to rid our political system of the massive influence big-money corporate special interests have over those who we elect to represent us. New Yorkers have, for years, overwhelmingly supported public financing of elections.

We applaud Comptroller DiNapoli for being a true leader in the fight for a more representative, responsive government that puts its people first. We urge the legislature to pass his bill.”
