Verizon workers ended their strike on Saturday, although there is no new contract agreement.
Verizon has agreed to honor the guidelines of the old contract (which fairly compensates workers) until an agreement is reached regarding compensation and job security.
The strike was ended because headway was made on a number of issues and a procedure was put in place to finish negotiating major issues.
Verizon workers were striking to protest Verizon’s attempts to freeze current workers’ pensions (eliminating them entirely for future workers), allow the outsourcing of more jobs, replace negotiated wage increases with merit pay, severely cut sick and vacation days, and eviscerate health care plans for current and retired employees.
