We all know that school cuts hurt.

It’s no secret that cutting funding from education directly affects the lives of kids across New York State. Students have to face larger class sizes, fewer class options, and compromised extracurricular opportunities.

Teachers are also feeling the effects of school cuts. In the past three years, 30,000 school employees have lost their jobs due to budget cuts. 7,700 more are slated to be laid off this year.

30,000 people is the size of a small town.

30,000 people won’t be out shopping, stimulating the economy. 30,000 families are going to struggle to stay warm this winter. 30,000 people are going to join a pool of job hunters that is already far too big.

NYSUT has recently compiled a fact sheet detailing the effects of Governor Cuomo’s $1.3 billion in education cuts. Remember, he implemented these cuts while at the same time giving millionaires, billionaires and corporations roughly $4.5 billion in tax cuts. What’s wrong with this picture?
